5 out of 5 stars This is a Body Bugg just different name on the label.   July 11, 2010

As of this writing I am nearing 30 pounds lost since I got my Body Bugg.

This is more than just a gadget, without the bodybugg I would exercise and see the say "250 calories burned" after a moderate walk. I would then think what could I eat less that day to be sure I didnt eat the 250 calories back on. While that is an OK approach it does not come close to the whole picture. I would starve myself hoping I didnt eat that 250 calories back. Which, in turn would make me miserable until I would give up and just gorge within a couple of days.

What the bodybugg does amazingly well is it gives you the whole picture. While walking up the stairs to put on my sneakers before my walk I burn calories. While sleeping I burn calories, while washing clothes I burn calories. Bodybugg adds them all up and gives you a 90% accurate count of your daily burn, so, you can actually eat pretty normally as long as you are willing to burn some calories on the treadmill later. It is the monitoring that we as humans can never achieve on our own. It takes some practice, some initiative to enter in every bit of food you eat. What you get in the end is an amazing system that will have you lose weight. As long as you are meticulous and honest you cant lose! Well actually you can you can lose as much as you want.

Pros:
+ 90% accuracy means that you have a very good knowledge of food in and cals burned. Keep it on the negative and you will lose weight.
+ light and low profile so you can wear it under most clothing without being noticed
+ Interactive website that can guide you in your loss
+ Pedometer and accelerometer measure every movement and combine this with skin temp and other data to accurately measure calories burned.
+ save a bunch of money buying this vs. the Bodybugg and get all of the same tools and benefits.

Cons:
- Nickel covered sensors means that you need to clean it often to not develop a rash. It can be managed just be fastidious in your cleaning methods.
- Addictive - may not be a con completely but I am watching my website a ton to see how I am doing.

TIPS FOR OWNERSHIP for those with nickel allergies:
After reading so many people with legitimate complaints about the nickel on this, I decided to edit my review to offer some help. When I first got this I left it on 24 hours a day and never cleaned it. I eventually got some little rash on the back of my arm. Since doing some real research I have found out that cleaning it will lessen your issues with it. Now I clean it several times a day and have 0 bumps on my arm and I still wear it 24 hours a day.

How can I make this work?
You have to clean this thing every day and maybe more if you have nickel allergies. What causes most bumps on the skin from nickel is from nickel salts that form when your sweat and acid break down the nickel. If left between the bugg and your skin + moisture you will get a rash. To prevent this do not wear it for like 30 minutes after you have a shower. After each exercise that you sweat, take it off, clean the plates thoroughly with ALCOHOL. Let it dry. Then put it back on once your skin is fairly dry. If this does not work you should use cortisone cream very thinly under the bugg. Last resort would be taking an antihistamine such as Alavert. If you want this bad enough you will find a way to make it work. Please check with your allergy doctor with regard to other measures you can take at home to allow you to wear this fantastic tool.

Overall if you are fat and need to drop your weight then you MUST get this tool. It is more important than any other piece of exercise gear you own. You could spend nearly this much on a pair of sneaker, so why not get a monitoring tool that can and will help you lose weight.

Good luck!

4 out of 5 stars Works well   July 6, 2010

I used it for about 6 months and have taken a break for about that long. I'm considering giving it another go. It seems most accurate when jogging, walking, stuff like that. If I do aerobic workouts such as the biggest loser or other DVD's it doesn't register high intensity like it does jogging, but I certainly feel high intensity! It might be the different type of motion. Surprisingly some of my biggest burn days have been those involving house/yard work followed by a rock concert yet no traditional workout. The sleep stats were eye-opening, literally; I don't get as much sleep as I thought.

Pros/Cons: Battery life is excellent (I don't have the monitor add-on). Information is available quickly from the web site, shown in graphs and data can be downloaded. The band overstretches after a while and gets a little "ratty" and loose. The metal part that contacts with skin is okay at first but starts to irritate after a while. Sometimes I have to move it around to a different area the next day or even within one day. It leaves little red marks that fade away, nothing truly painful. The food logging part was cumbersome and I log food for Weight Watchers anyways. It sure would be nice if WW and Body Media found a way to talk to each other. I suggested that to Body Media. I think they've changed the food in tracking section since I stopped using so it may be better. I had trouble using the upload/web site with my Mac but technical support was able to get it working. Overall, good investment if you want to see what you burn.

Purchased this back in 11/09 and it is my Bible.....the feature I adore the most is the "sleeping one".........it monitors your sleep pattern efficiently and that is so important in everyday life. If I haven't gotten my 7 plus hours of sleep, I feel it and take a nippy-nap during the day to recover the loss of sleep from the prior night that the Body Wear has programed for me. Highly recommend this device as it also has so many other great features to inform you with your daily calorie/walk/sleep/work-out burn etc......Well worth the money!

3 out of 5 stars Metal Allergies? Beware!   June 27, 2010

This is a nice product - and worked well when I could wear it... but - if you have a nickel allergy, wearing metal contacts on your arm 20+ hours a day may turn into a painful patch of skin that doesn't heal... I did all of the cleaning and followed the directions, but still I could only wear it for 5 hours a day a couple of days a week, which isn't very helpful... I just wished that when I bought it over a year ago, I would have realized that I was allergic to it!
