Product Description Dr. Robert Bruce Banner may have the appearance of a mild-mannered scientist, but after being caught in gamma bomb explosion, he became the unstoppable engine of destruction know as the Incredible Hulk! Marvel is proud to present the tales of the everyone's favorite man-monster from the very beginning: From the earliest Stan Lee and Jack Kirby issues that put an irradiated angle on the Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde complex to the Steve Ditko's psychological slobbernockers in Tales to Astonish and the Jade Giant's return to his solo series, this Hulk-sized collection is the foundation for every purple-pants'd adventure ever! Featuring artwork by a who's who of Marvel Age luminaries and scripts by Stan "The Man" Lee, they'll introduce to you to General Thunderbolt Ross; the tortured woman who loves both the man and the monster, Betty Ross; the Leader; the Abomination; and a series of earth-shaking fights between the Hulk and the Silver Surfer, Thor, Giant-Man, Namor, Hercules, and more! Collecting the first adventures of the Jade Giant in one painstakingly restored volume with every page, every pin-up, and every letters column. Not to mention unused covers, critical essays, and bonuses galore! Collects Hulk #1-6, Tales to Astonish #59-101, and Incredible Hulk #102.

"That ever lovin Hulk! Hulk! Hulk!" June 10, 2010 D. L. Haynes (Omaha, NE USA) What a great collection of stories! I am also a huge fan of the 1966 cartoon and it is fun to go back and compare the original stories with the ones they "animated" for the show. This is a classic and should be enjoyed by everyone. My three year old asks for me to read it to hime sometimes because he also loves the jolly green one as much as I do.
As far as covers go it is all a matter of preference I wouldn't say that one is better than another. Although having bought the regular one I wouldn't mind having the Alex Ross cover now that I think about it. Oh well.
Anyway stop reading my lame review and get to clickin' on the "add to cart" button and prepare to become a "true Believer!"
Excelsior!!
it's ok September 20, 2009 john washington 3 out of 6 found this review helpful
I really enjoy the old archive comics, the dc comics archives, the new Jack Kirby collections, etc. I have dozens of them, so I thought that this book would be a no brainer; unfortunately it's only ok. The first 100 pages are great, (Kirby, Ditko) but I kind of wish I could have just purchased that section alone. There is some pretty bad art in here. I bought the book at close to 40% off and I'd say that 40% (or more) of the art is sub-par, so I guess it's fair. I'd recommend this book to really hardcore hulk fans that are into retro, and aren't picky about art. But if you want most of your comics to look good, you might skip this and buy the collections that are focused on single artists instead.
Book Smash! August 16, 2009 W. Rosen (USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Careful or this super-heavy book will smash something in your house. It's giant-sized and it's format is fitting for the incredible Hulk. Like all the omnibus collections this is an incredible value.
Stan Lee wrote so well these are great even today August 5, 2009 S. Arnold 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
I love these marvel omnibus editions and catching up on the beginnings of the Hulk was even better than I expected! Excellent Stan Lee writing and creation and character development make these excellent to have in your collection if you're going for full runs, which I'd love to have.
Binding is great on this book, but I have had problems with Tomb of Dracula and Secret Wars II. Get the binding right, Marvel!
I loved Kirby's Hulk, I loved all the different artists handling the character, all while Stan Lee's visionary imagination fills your mind with wonders. Sure these are almost 50 years old so they do have some cobwebs hidden around, but I was totally surprised at how much I got swept away in the sci fi fantasy of it all. I had no idea until I read these omnibus collections of marvels main heroes what an epic sweeping symphony Stan Lee and company choreographed across these titles, which were each released in small monthly installments but here you get the long and continuous flow of these first 30 something issues.
Hoping Marvel releases full runs of these titles in omnibus format so that one might be able to go back and experience all they missed- like me- beginning back with that first marvel title Fantastic Four in 1961...
