A nice set for first time parents July 6, 2010 First time parents on the go! This stroller is very easy to use, and easily put together. The Stroller does take up a lot of storage room in the trunk, but is well worth it. The adjustable handle is an excellent feature and the key and cup holder really come in handy. The seat has adjustable shoulder straps and do not have to be used with the belt lap when your child is older. The locking/brake system on this stroller is very advanced and makes pushing this stroller a nice experience. I do agree that when the stroller seat is reclined, it leaves little room for baggage underneith.
The car seat is nice and the material is easy to clean, however it does make for a sweaty baby in the summer. It is light weight and locks into the base easily. Also the base as a little storage compartment under it. The built in level makes it easy to balance and the variety of straps makes it convienant for all vehical models. Over all we are very satisfied.
Meets All Our Needs + Stylish and Very User-Friendly July 6, 2010 PuppyLove (Texas) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
My husband & I had the hardest time picking a stroller/car seat combo. This was our first baby, so we had no idea what qualities would be important to us. Safety is obvious, and price was of course a factor, but what else? Lightweight? Easy to set up & take down? Comfort for us & baby? Which mattered more & which "cons" should we give the most credence to? We went to many stores & tried out every model, then we'd come home and read the Amazon reviews, and the ones we liked would have negative comments that would make us doubt our decision, so we'd start the search all over again. It seemed like no one liked their stroller/car seat.
I'm sure some of you out there are having the same trouble, so for those of you hung up like I was on the negative comments, I would like to give you a different perspective on some of the other reviews. Just because there is a "con" doesn't mean it's a dealbreaker - these things are livable! There is no perfect item out there - the Chicco is as close to perfect as we felt we could get - we love it, and we'd buy it again.
THE BIG PICTURE:
1. This is a GREAT stroller for the price range. It is not the cheapest, but not nearly the most expensive. We bought a Graco first and didn't like it - the carseat on this locks so much easier into the base and the stroller, and it also feels much sturdier, smoother, and better put together than the Graco.
2. It rides great - inside & outside. It steers easily, it's smooth, and the handle feels comfy.
3. It is easy to clean, and the fabric choices are stylish.
4. The stroller is very simple to unfold & fold, and the carseat could not be any easier to lock in place.
5. It is comfortable for the baby. She falls asleep & stays asleep in it often.
NOW, TO ADDRESS SOME SUPPOSED DRAWBACKS:
1. Yes, the fabric is warm, (some of the styles of Chicco even seem hotter than others, go see them in person first), but so are pretty much all carseat fabrics (and swing and high chair fabrics). It makes them easy to clean). We bought the "Cubes" and are happy with that fabric and pattern. It is summer in Texas and the baby sweats a bit on her back. It doesn't seem to bother her at all.
2. We have not had any trouble with the straps being too tight or too loose, brakes not working, or wheels squeaking. Our baby has been in the 75-90th percentile for height & weight since 2 months, and no trouble fitting. And I can't imagine how anyone could have trouble locking in the carseat unless it was broken. We literally tried every model at Babies R Us and Buy Buy Baby, and this was the easiest one to lock in.
3. Yes, it is heavier than some models. The seat feels heavier than the stroller. I consider myself a full-fledged wimp, and I could handle either. I use a carrier of some type instead of toting the seat by itself when possible. Not a big deal.
4. When using the seat with the stroller, unless you have a very narrow diaper bag, it will be hard to get it under the seat, and you won't be able to fit some shopping items under there. Again, not a big deal - use a mommy hook or carry the bag on your shoulder. You don't need tons of heavy stuff in your bag when the babies are that young. We always used a hand basket for shopping - it is easy enough to maneuver the stroller with one hand, and we never felt comfortable putting shopping items under the stroller. It felt like people were always watching us thinking we were shoplifting. (Sometimes they specifically checked for that).
5. The adult beverage holder is too shallow. If you hit a bump, your drink will probably spill. However, if you are at the mall, etc., not many bumps there, and if you are outside, you can attach a water bottle to a mommy hook.
Disclaimer: We have owned this for 5 months now, it is holding up perfectly so far. We live in the suburbs, so we use this for shopping, but we also take it on a pretty rough sidewalk about 1/2 to 1 mile every day. We also have large vehicles, so no trouble fitting the stroller. Another caveat, either one of us does the grocery shopping while the other keeps the baby, or we both go & one pushes the cart and the other pushes the stroller, so if you have to do lots of shopping alone & with baby, there may be a better product for you since the carseat does take up most of a shopping buggy & the basket is difficult to access.
Loved it July 5, 2010 Penu Dokouzov (Charleston, WV USA) We got the system for our son, who was born in September. We loved the car seat, especially in the winter months we took the baby on many walks, and the seat is so comfy and keeps the baby warm. Some reviews say it is too hot, but I do not agree. To me, no matter what seat you use, the baby will sweat if overheated - babies are sweaty creatures:). The seat is a little heavy, but I guess it is all the safety features it has. Our son always felt asleep in the seat within 5-10 minutes. The stroller is easy to fold and not too heavy. I agree with another reviw it had a strong "new" smell, but if you leave it outside it clears soon after.
Nice pattern, good combo July 2, 2010 M. Johnson I like my travel system, although it is a bit heavy and bulky (I use my snap n go for quick trips, this for more substantial walks). I think it's best compared to, well, not quite an SUV but one of the crossover cars....
It nicely reclines all the way and the handles seem to be high enough for my husband and I to comfortably use (I'm 5'10", he's 6'1"). Loved the pattern--was a bit sad to see that it is now offered at Babies r Us b/c I loved how unique it is (could only find it online back then)...I also like that you can close it up when you draw the stroller cover down to meet the car seat awning.
Car seat does seem to make my little girl a little sweaty, as other reviewers had mentioned. But otherwise, it's great!
no flat position for footrest, but otherwise great May 26, 2010 F. Sparks We got this stroller after much research. My husband is VERY tall, 6'8", and not just any stroller would work. The handle is adjustable and he can easily and comfortably push it at his height, as can I, and I imagine anyone could since it goes pretty far down. I contacted Chicco after seeing the stroller in stores and noticing that on some of them, the footrest did not lock into place in the flat position. That is because as of 2007, they stopped making the Cortina stroller in that way. It no longer locks in a flat position. I personally wanted this feature, so I did some negotiating with the personnel and swapped their barely used floor model stroller for the new one in the box. (I kept the new padding and carseat & just changed the stroller frame) If you want this feature, know that you will probably not be getting it on this stroller any longer. Another difference is that the covered section on the parent tray is slightly smaller on the newer (post 2007) models. No big deal.
On that note, the difference between the Keyfit 22 and Keyfit 30, other than the obvious pound difference - you can use the Keyfit 22 car seat with a baby up to 22 lbs. and the Keyfit30 up to 30 lbs.-- is the fact that the Keyfit 30 has the lap belt system on the outside of the carseat, clearly visible, and the Keyfit 22 has it under the padding. If you ever need to use the car seat without the base, you can use a seatbelt with this system, just know that if you have a Keyfit 22 (not the one sold in this listing) you will have to remove the padding on the bottom sides of the car seat until it is visible and accessible. Read the manual for how to use this correctly.
*The stroller is great and rides very smoothly. The fabric is of nice quality.
*The basket is very large and easily accessible.
*The parent tray is very nice and handy.
*The handle is foam padded so your hands won't get sweaty, but also has two flat rubbery grips for your hands.
*The child seat is large & roomy.
*It reclines fully and the footrest encloses the space to create a sort of bassinet.
*The child tray is removeable for when you child is old enough to hop on him or herself. You can also just release one side of it.
*The child tray also has a removeable click-in liner for easy cleaning.
*The entire padding on both the stroller and car seat (except the canopy on the stroller) are removeable for washing.
*The shoulder straps are removeable for older children.
*The car seat comes with removeable padding for newborns in the seat and head area, so you don't need to purchase it separately and small babies will be snug & supported.
*The wheels are nice and lockable in the front and back.
*The canopy isn't super large, but it can be tilted forward, so you can still shield baby's eyes, depending on where the sun is. I recommend RayShade® UV Protective Stroller Shade Improves Sun Protection for Strollers, Joggers and Prams BlackRayShade which you can easily attach to any stroller and move from one to another for far superior sun protection.
Chicco now makes a double stroller, which accepts this car seat, so you can use it for a 2nd child as well. In fact, many double strollers accept various car seats, and this is one of the most popular, and has the best safety ratings.
Hope this review helped you make your decision.
